James E. Billington has significant experience and a successful track record of building, acquiring, operating and selling companies. He co-founded, grew and sold two successful medical laboratory startup companies, most recently a clinical reference laboratory company (American Esoteric Labs, or "AEL") that was founded in June 2003 and grew to $100M in annual revenue prior to being sold in January 2007 for $183M. In 1997 he co-founded Inform DX, a provider of managment services for pathology practices. After completing several successful strategic acquisitions and growing the company to an annual revenue run-rate in excess of $40.0 million, Inform DX was sold to AmeriPath in a stock exchange in December 2000. He then assumed a senior management position at AmeriPath.
Mr. Billington served as President and Chief Operating Officer of both AEL and Inform DX. He was Senior Vice President of Operations for AmeriPath from November 2000 until April 2003, where his responsibilities included Chief Information Officer, operational oversight of the Center for Advanced Diagnostics, and Chief Compliance Officer. He also created the "Best Practices" program for AmeriPath. Prior to co-founding Inform DX in 1997, Mr. Billington served as Vice President, Administration/Finance for Laboratory Corporation of America ("LabCorp"). In this capacity, he had operational and financial oversight for six operating regions with combined annual revenues of $532.0 million. Previously, Mr. Billington spent five years with Allied Clinical Laboratories, most recently serving as Assistant Vice President, Controller for the Texas Division. From 1984 to 1989, Mr. Billington served in various roles in the public accounting industry.
