Mr. Brown’s 30 year business background is centered in finance and corporate acquisitions. For the past 18 years, Mr. Brown has served as a Managing Director for Sowell & Co., a mid-sized private investment company based in Dallas, Texas. In this capacity, Mr. Brown serves as Director and Chairman of several of Sowell & Co.’s major investments, including the Chairman of Sergeant’s Pet Care Products. Over the course of his business career, Mr. Brown has served on several Boards of Directors, in many cases serving as Chairman of the Board
From 1987 until 1989 Mr. Brown was the Managing Director of ABQ Capital Markets, the high yield investment subsidiary of ABQ Bank, A federal savings bank. While at ABQ, Mr. Brown had responsibility for a $120,000,000 portfolio of high yield securities and preferred stocks. Mr. Brown and Mr. Meader worked together at both ABQ Bank and Sowell & Co from 1987 until Mr. Meader left in 1997.
Mr. Brown received his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and an MBA from The Darden School at the University of Virginia. Prior to joining ABQ in 1989, Mr. Brown served in various lending capacities at First National Bank of Dallas (InterFirst – now Bank of America) including Executive Vice President of the U. S. Corporate Division, reporting to the Chairman of the Board.
Mr. Brown currently serves on the Investment Committee for Texas Tech University’s Foundation, which is responsible for managing the University’s endowment of over $500,000,000.
